About the Artist
Peter Vukmirovic Stevens is a composer, pianist, instrument designer and visual artist. Stevens performs as a pianist across the US and Europe. His compositions are performed throughout the US, Europe, the Caucasus, and Japan. His artworks have shown in Los Angeles, Seattle and Paris, and in numerous print and online publications, including Studio Visit Magazine. His works have been added to a number of collections in the US and France.
In 2019 he received awards for his compositions in collaboration with turntablist and artist Christoph Hess, from Migros Cultural Percentage, City of Berne, Canton Berne and Canton Solothurn (Switzerland). In 2020 he received an ASCAP Plus Award. He was previously been awarded residencies at La Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris), VICC (Visby, Sweden) and Haytayan House (Yerevan, Armenia). Stevens is currently an artist-in-residence at Centre des Récollets in Paris. In 2019, he was appointed Co-Executive Director at Arpaviva Recordings based in Los Angeles and Paris. His next album for piano and voice, in collaboration with Penny Rimbaud (Crass), is slated for release in 2021.
Currently he is co-developing a new electronic musical instrument, The Ambit, in collaboration with Giancarlo Ciarelli (climate scientist and DJ based in Helsinki). The Ambit offers innumerable performance possibilities for any context associated with movement, including concert music, dance, or kinetic sculpture. His professors have included Samuel Jones, David Mahler, Roger Nelson and, very importantly, Bern Herbolsheimer who died in 2016. To view more of his work click below.
