Lines Composed In Several Galleries

I have considered how artists
participate in Genesis when they say:
           Let us take the clouds
           and let us place them under the boats
           and let us call them waves.

           And let us take one white and curling line
           to be the unbroken breaker,
           and may it separate the sea and the shore.
You are crossing the bridge
and I am going for my train,
and we are both saying:
           Let us take this foot
           and put it in front of the other one
           and let us call that departure.
           Let us take one glance behind
           and call it wise.
