This performance was at the U.S. Open for West Coast Swing – a type of partner dance. My partner, Joel Torgeson, and I spent around 5-6 months working on it and competed in the Showcase Division at the Open. The piece was choreographed by Benji Schwimmer, the winner of season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance. We had a fun experience putting our own personalities into the routine and the costumes.

About the Artist

Emily Huang grew up in Shanghai but moved to Austin for college, where she’s a senior at the University of Texas studying Advertising. Growing up, she dabbled in ballet and continued her dance education in college, learning competitive Country and West Coast Swing. She and her friends started the Longhorn Westies West Coast Swing Club at UT, which is both open to students and non-students. She hopes to spread her love of swing to everyone and welcome them into the dance world. Emily is a newbie in the writing community, and can’t wait to get more involved.
